Spell to Tell
Unlocking Communication for All
Helping Nonspeakers Be Heard, One Letter at a Time
At Spell to Tell we support nonspeaking, minimally speaking, and unreliably speaking individuals, and the families who love them, by providing tools, training, and encouragement on the path to authentic communication.
Our primary method is Spelling to Communicate (S2C), a motor-based approach that teaches individuals to point to letters in order to spell their thoughts. Starting with letter boards and progressing to keyboards, S2C empowers learners to express their ideas, engage in meaningful conversation, and participate in the world around them.
About Spelling to Communicate
Spelling to Communicate (S2C) is a method that helps nonspeaking individuals express their thoughts by pointing to letters to spell words. It teaches the motor skills needed to communicate using letter boards and eventually keyboards, offering a path to meaningful, independent communication.
Many nonspeaking individuals face motor challenges, not cognitive ones. S2C bridges the gap between what they know and what they can express. With support from trained communication partners, spellers learn to coordinate their brain and body to point purposefully, starting with simple letter recognition and growing toward full, open communication.
We believe that every individual deserves to express their thoughts in a meaningful way. As our spellers say,
“26 letters, limitless opportunity!”
